Professional Resume Writers and Their Magic Wands

Professional Resume Writers and Their Magic Wands Professional Resume Writers and Their Magic Wands Today Im working on a fantastic project. My client has a diverse and interesting background and is making a career change. His experiences are perfect for what he wants to do next, but presenting them well means carefully sifting through them and selecting the things that are most helpful while minimizing the stuff that might distract recruiters.I love doing this and Im good at it. I instinctively know what to include and what to leave out and how to lay it all out on the page. If you have relevant experience, no matter how long ago, or how unusual it is, I can help you show your worth. But sometimes Im approached by people I cant help. People who simply dont have the experience required but who think I have a magic wand. Todays was an IT professional who wanted to go into web design. The only problem is that he hadnt done any web design I dont mean he hadnt done any professionally. I mean he hadnt done any. No volunteer work, no college studies, no unpaid work for friends and family. NothingI know I could do a great job, he told me. I just need someone to give me a chance and I can learn on the job. Thats where a good resume comes in.Um no. Actually it isnt. There is nothing I can do on a resume that can make up for the fact that you havent put in the time. If you have unpaid experience, I can make it look paid. If youve freelanced while working full-time jobs, I can bring that freelancing to the forefront. if you started out in design and then moved away from it, I have tricks to bring that design experience back into focus for employers. If youve taken college classes, I can write about your college design projects. But if youre just hoping to persuade employers to hire you with no experience and then teach you the job, youre hoping for a miracle and miracles I dont do.Photo by DoubleM2

The 6 Pillars of a Recruiters Personal Brand

The 6 Pillars of a Recruiters Personal Brand The 6 Pillars of a Recruiters Personal Brand For arecruiter in todays historically tighttalent market, your personal brand carries extraordinary weight. When a candidate googles you, what do they see? When a prospective client is comparing recruiters who can handle their tough-to-fill roles, what information are they finding about you? All of that constitutes your personal brand, and it can make or break you as a recruiter. Here are the sixpillars of your personal brand - and some advice on how to optimize them1. Your Social Media ProfilesA recruiters social media profilespaints a picture of who they are and what they can bring to the table. What you post, the groups with which you associate, and who your connections are all tell clients and candidates a lot of valuable information about you. While many people think LinkedIn is the only socialmedia site that matters in business, this is simply not true. Clients and candidates will look at whatever comes up when they google you - and that includes your Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages. If those profiles are political, divisive, and not in line with their values, they may take note and walk away. By the same token, if a candidate or client finds you attended their alma mater, root for the same sports team, or have a friend in common, they may be positively influenced to use your services. In short Be aware of what you are putting online at all times in all forums. People do check.2. Your RatingsThe first things many clients and candidates will look for when considering you are your ratings and reviews on Glassdoor, Google, Indeed, Facebook, LinkedIn, and any other sites where people can leave feedback about you. This feedback is crucial, so dont be afraid to ask existing clients and candidates to review you.Five-star reviews are wonderful, but how you handle the inevitable schwimmschwimmbad reviews is just as important to your brand. Make sure you respond to ever y review, good or bad. If you receive a bad review, let the reviewer know publicly that you are sorry and that you are always open to discussing ways to improve your service. Above all, make sure your response is professional. Everyone will respect that.3. Your NetworkIt has been said that your network is your net worth. This expression couldnt be truer than it is in the recruiting industry, where business is won and positions are filled based in large part on referrals.Your online profiles show candidates and clients the people you know. It is crucial your network leaves a good impression. If you are just starting out in the field, take active steps to build your online network. Get everyone you know personally to like, follow, friend, and add you on various platforms.Become active inrelevant networking associations such as your local chamber of commerce, industry groups, business networks, young professionals networks, womens networking groups, and so on. Hand out your business ca rd to everyone you meet, and be sure to add new contacts to your LinkedIn network right away.4. Your Recruiting SpecialtyThe vast majority of the placements made by recruiters are made by specialty recruiters who focus on a particular industry or market segment. These recruiters have an advantage over generalists because they understand the nuances of a given segment and are thus better able to source perfect-fit candidates. Most importantly, specialist recruiters build networks of people they can tap into at a moments notice whenever a new role opens up in the field.Having and working a well-defined specialty allows you to drive value for candidates and clients alike, and it also contributes to the rapidexpansion of your own professional network. When you provide excellent service to talent in a specific industry segment, those candidates will recommend you to their colleagues. Eventually, the people you place will move into higher-level roles and will need to hire talent of their o wn. You will be the first person they call when that happens.5. InspirationAs silly as they may seem to some, inspirational quotes and content are a big hit for many people on the internet. People like to be uplifted by reminders that they can reach their goals, have better lives, and land their dream jobs. You should be that positive force. Not only will it win you fans who can become clients and candidates, but your content will also be shared by your followers, in turn attracting even more people to your network.6. IntegritySome recruiters give the field a bad name. They harass people and undercut colleagues. They dont have the candidates best interests in mind, only their commission fee.Dont be that recruiter. It will not help you grow your personal brand or reputation.Instead, being transparent and honest with both employers and talent will go a long way in building your personal reputation. Integrity is what leads to the positive ratings on social media and the exponential gro wth of your network. Act with integrity in everything you do. It will pay off in the long run.Geri Duncombe is the marketing director at Goodwin Recruiting.

3 Questions to Ask to Move on From a Bad Day - The Muse

3 Questions to Ask to Move on From a Bad Day - The Muse3 Questions to Ask to Move on From a Bad DayTheres no other way to say it Youve had an absolutely horrible day. You spilled coffee all over yourself during your commute and then showed up late to your meeting with a giant stain on your shirt. Your boss gave you a ton of not-so-great feedback on a recent project you spent weeks on. And, to top it all off, your desk mate decided that everybody should be able to hear her favorite playlist over and over again on full volume. Youre ready to head home, wallow in your own self-pity, and then leave this day behind you.I cant blame you. But, heres the thing Pressing pause for at least a little bit of reflection can help you not only move on- but also prevent you from having mora bad days just like this one. 1. Will This Day Have a Lasting Impact? When your day was nothing but awful, its easy to send yourself into a downward spiral of despair. You make mountains out of molehills and become convinced that this one brief rough patch will be the demise of your entire career and reputation.Rest assured, thats hardly ever the case- and this question will help you step back and get some much-needed perspective. Of course, there will be some days that had so much go wrong they will require some further action to patch things up. But, most of the time? Youll be able to start fresh tomorrow morning without any sort of ill effects from the previous day.So, chin up More likely than not, everything that happened today probably wont matter too much next year (or even the next day).2. What Would You Do Differently? Are you the eternal winner of the blame game? I can relate. When things dont work out as planned, its easy to place all of the responsibility on your shoulders- regardless of whether you had any control over those circumstances or not. This is why it can be so helpful to identify what- if anything- youd do differently if you magically had a do-over of your day.Not only wil l you be able to show yourself some grace and quit blaming yourself for things you had nothing to do with (really, what power did you have over your train being late?), but youll also learn from any mistakes you actually did make- and then avoid doing them in the future. 3. What Went Well Today?Alright, youre so wrapped up in everything that went wrong that youre convinced today was so terrible its worthy of being the plot of a horror film. However, even the worst days have at least a few bright spots.Obsessing over the bad things is probably only going to send your mood into more of a nosedive. So, ask yourself this question to pull out a few of the positives.Even if its something as small as the fact that you got your favorite bagel sandwich for lunch or your colleague complimented your haircut, think of the things that actually went right today (trust me, there are a few of them). Its a great way to put those negative things behind you and boost your mood. Unfortunately, bad days are inescapable every now and then. They can be frustrating and emotionally trying, but they can also be enlightening. Before you park yourself on your couch and drown your sorrows for the evening, take the time to think through behauptung three key questions- and youll be back up and at em in no time.

Military Service Credit for Federal Civilian Retirement

Military Service Credit for Federal Civilian Retirement Military Service Credit for Federal Civilian Retirement If you have performed honorable active military service after December 31, 1956, and have now accepted a position within the federal government, your active duty time will count toward your federal retirement pension. As an example, if you attended a United States Service Academy for four years, graduated, and then served five years in the military honorably, those nine years will count toward your federal retirement, even though the four years at the service academy do not count toward time served if accepting a twenty year retirement for military service. For the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) purposes, crediting of post 1956 military service depends on the following: Making Deposits Is Required Federal Employment Before 1 Oct 82. Generally, if you were first employed in a position covered by CSRS before October 1, 1982, you may receive credit for your post 1956 military service if you retire from civilian service prior to age 62. However, if you do not make a military service deposit prior to separation from Federal employment, the military service will be eliminated from the computation of your CSRS annuity when you reach age 62, if you are entitled to Social Security benefits. Federal Employment After 1 Oct 82. Generally, if you were first employed in a position covered by CSRS on or after October 1, 1982, you will not receive credit for post 1956 military service for any retirement purpose unless you make a military service deposit prior to separation from Federal employment. The amount of the deposit is a sum equal to 7-percent (special category employees may pay a higher amount) of the military basic pay earned during the period of military service, plus interest. Current Programming For the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) purposes, crediting of post 1956 military service depends on the following: Generally, if you were automatically covered under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) on January 1, 1987 or at any time thereafter, you must make the military service deposit prior to separation from Federal employment to receive credit for any retirement purpose. Military service is credited under FERS rules if it was performed after you became covered by FERS or you had less than 5 years of civilian service (other than CSRS Interim or Offset service) upon becoming covered by FERS. The amount of the deposit is a sum equal to 3-percent (special category employees may pay a higher amount) of the military basic pay earned during the period of military service, plus interest. If you receive military retired or retainer pay, you will not receive credit for any military service unless certain conditions are met or apply. Making Deposits - Why You Should Making a deposit for post 1956 military service allows you to receive permanent credit for military service under your Federal civilian retirement system, and the military service remains creditable for Social Security purposes. Making a deposit early helps to avoid the accrual of additional interest. The rate of interest charged on post 1956 deposits changes annually. This interest accrues and compounds annually on your Interest Accrual Date (IAD). Your first IAD is the date 1-year after the date the interest-free grace periods ends. You will be given the option to make the deposit in one lump sum or through payroll deduction. All post-56 military service deposits must be made to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) before separation from Federal employment. Even if you dont plan to retire or leave Federal service soon, it is a very good idea to at least obtain the amount of your military earnings so that the deposit can be computed more easily. To process the deposit, we can use your actual military pay vouchers for complete periods of military service in computing the military deposit or you can obtain a certified estimate of your military earnings from the appropriate branch of service. The DLA Human Resources Center, Customer Support Offices (CSO) can provide instructions for obtaining the certified estimate. Once you do complete the deposit, the DFAS payroll office will send you a receipt that indicates that your deposit was paid in full, the amount paid and the period of service the deposit covers. Once you receive the receipt you will need to forward a copy to the CSO office that services you and it will be filed in your Official Personnel Folder as a permanent record. The office needs this information from you in order to determine whether you can receive credit in your CSRS or FERS retirement benefit. When an individual leaves Federal service or moves to another payroll office, their payroll records are closed out and sent onto the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). OPM will maintain these records until the individual applies for retirement, requests a refund or dies. Procedures For Making Deposits If you are within six months of retirement, you should submit your request to make the deposit when submitting your application for retirement.  You should apply to make a payment by completing a  Standard Form 3108)  - Application to Make Service Credit/FERS.  You will be notified of any amounts due so you can decide whether or not to make the payment.  You will not be authorized regular retirement annuity payments until the process and deposit payment are complete.

Fortunately, many law schools offer part-time law programs (state-by-state list of part-time law programs). Approximately 1 in 10 graduates from ABA-approved schools attended a part-time law program, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. Full-time students complete a law degree in three academic years while part-time students generally complete a law degree in eight semesters or four academic years. Students admitted to a law schools part-time program can usually transfer to the full-time program if they choose. Advantages of Part-Time Law Programs Evening classes: Most part-time law programs are offered in the evening, allowing students to maintain full-time employment during the day. Evening programs make law school possible for many students with employment and family obligations that would otherwise prevent them from attending law school.Reduced Course Load: Part-time law programs allow students to carry fewer credits and take fewer classes than full-time students. Although the course load is reduced, part-time students should still expect to spend 30 to 40 hours per week pursuing their law degree in addition to their employment and other responsibilities. Lower Admissions Criteria: The LSAT scores and GPA̢۪s of students in part-time programs are excluded from U.S. News World Report̢۪s law school rankings calculus, making it possible for schools to lower admissions criteria for part-time students. Part-time admissions programs are often more forgiving with LSAT scores and GPAs, placing greater weight on students̢۪ professional experience and accomplishments. However, changes in U.S. News World Reports ranking system may raise admissions criteria and force part-time program cuts, according to a recent Wall Street Journal report. Reduced Financial Burden: Since part-time law programs are usually completed in four academic years instead of three, students can spread the financial burden out over a greater period of time. Moreover, working during law school may help offset the costs of a legal education and allow students to take out fewer loans. Disadvantages of Part-Time Law Programs Tremendous Time Commitment: Law school, even part-time, is an enormous time commitment. In addition to class time, first-year students are typically assigned three hours of homework per classroom hour and may be required to read from 300 to 450 pages a week. Law Review, moot court, externships, law clinics, extracurricular activities, and on-campus interviews also place demands on the law student̢۪s time. The demands of law school combined with the demands of family and/or a full-time job leave little time for other activities. Less Prestige: Since some part-time admissions programs place more weight on work experience and accomplishments and less emphasis on GPA and LSAT scores, employers may view these programs as less prestigious. In some cases, attending a part-time law school program can limit ones post-graduate employment options.Higher Cost: Since most part-time law programs require an extra year in school, the cost of a part-time law school education is usually greater than the cost of a three-year program. Part-time students may also be ineligible for academic scholarships. Missed Opportunities: Part-time students may miss out on opportunities afforded to full-time students. These opportunities include externships, clinics, moot court, on-campus interviews, journals, student organizations, and other extracurricular activities. In addition, part-time students who work full-time may not have the opportunity to perform a summer clerkship which is the most common path to big-firm employment.

Job Seekers of a Certain Age

Job Seekers of a Certain Age Job Seekers of a Certain Age Job seekers in their 50s may be stereotyped as counting the days to retirement or running up health-insurance costs. Older professionals describe how they’ve fought those perceptions on the job search.Trude Diamond has a doctorate in education and many years of proven, successful experience in systems requirement engineering, instructional development and design, and writing and editing. She was on a fast track to senior positions and grew accustomed to receiving regular bumps in title and salary. The first time she found herself out of a job - a product of the dot-com bust - she was 50 years old. It took her five years to get hired for anything but short-term contracts, but she eventually landed a job at a small company in Tampa, Fla.After two years at that company, her department’s functions were outsourced to India, and Diamond again found herself looking for a full-time job with benefits. She hasn’t found one yet.Diamond is now 63 and says she doubts she will ever again fin d a full-time job with benefits. She’s not ready for retirement, but she does not feel that corporate America is ready or willing to hire an older worker. “I am forever applying for jobs through my considerable network of business associates and acquaintances and online, and nothing,” she said. “I just really wanted to work at a job that I liked and could do for the next 10 years or so.”Diamond’s story is not unique. Ladders has spoken with many job seekers and workers age 55 and older who have found themselves unemployed and waiting by a phone that just won’t ring. It’s more than a feeling for Diamond and others in her situation. Unemployment and job search actually is more difficult for older workers. On average, workers age 55 and older can expect to be out of work 35 weeks, 20 percent longer than those age 25 to 54 years old, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.Experts who spoke with Ladders said age has become more of an issue as traditional safety nets h ave been torn to shreds in the last few years.“It’s a complicated issue and, yes, it is a problem,” said Laurence J. Stybel, co-founder of Stybel, Peabody Associates Inc., and executive in residence at the Sawyer School of Business at Suffolk University in Boston. “It’s becoming an acute problem because many baby boomers who thought they were going to retire at 59 1/2 to 62 are now dealing with the aftermath of the collapse of their job security and the collapse of their retirement funds and are saying, ‘Now I have to work till 68 or maybe 70.’ But employers aren’t interested in that.”Confront Age Head-OnWhat recourse does an older job seeker have? The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 protects people 40 years old and older from discrimination based on age. But that doesn’t mean that such discrimination doesn’t happen, said Stybel. Many people try to hide their ages on their resumes, by leaving off years of graduation and including only the last 15 ye ars or so of work experience. Unless you appear exceptionally young for your age or have resorted to some kind of plastic surgery, this strategy will be effective only until they meet you.Instead of trying to obfuscate your age, said Stybel, address it head-on.“Because of the legalities, employers and potential employers are not going to bring up the issue of age,” he said. “If you as the job candidate don’t bring up the issue, it’s not going to be discussed. And, if it’s not discussed, it works to your disadvantage.”Emphasize the experience and work ethic that come with age, while demonstrating the flexibility and hunger to succeed that are often attributed more to younger workers.“A lot of companies want young people because they’re hungry,” said Stybel. “The assumption is that somebody 55 or older has got the retirement all set up, the kids are out of college, they don’t need the money, they aren’t hungry. [Potential employers won’t] ask you how hungry you are. It’s a rude question, and it also indirectly deals with age, so it could be an illegal question. It’s up to you to bring it up. Say, ‘I’m hungry; I really want the money, I need the money, I’m going to work my ass off for you.’ ”Carrell Chadwell, a psychologist and the author of “Changing Careers in a Changing World,” noted that many employers will question (at least to themselves) the length of time an older worker will be with an organization. Again, the best defense is a strong offense, said Chadwell: “They’re likely to wonder how long you are going to stay. You want to mention that. Tell them what your goals are and that you will be there at least several years.”A more complicated issue is that of health insurance, or, from an employer’s perspective, how much will this person cost our company?“As people get older, they’re going to use health insurance more,” said Stybel. “And, particularly in small businesses, the cost of health insura nce goes up every year, and it’s a major cost. So, when an employer looks at a candidate over the age of 55, they’re going to say, ‘If I hire her, won’t my health insurance costs go through the roof? Because there’s her, there’s her husband…’ But they won’t bring it up because of the legal issues and because it’s awkward.”Stybel recommends, you guessed it, that you bring up the issue yourself. “Confront the issue in a positive and professional way.”Age and WisdomWith age comes wisdom, but if it doesn’t also come with a full-time benefited position, there are alternatives: “Older workers are freelancing, setting themselves up as independent contractors, going to work for smaller companies that maybe can’t afford full-time employees,” Chadwell said.“Be aggressive about looking,” said Eric Wentworth, 62, a public relations executive, who, in his own words, went from “golden boy to tarnished antique.” “Do something out of the box. Point out ho w your skills/experience can solve all the problems and/or meet all the qualifications of the job. Always be upbeat and positive. Finally, pray a lot. Because even with all this, you will be discriminated against because of your age - even by employers who are the same age.”

This is what makes being on a diet most challenging

This is what makes being on a diet most challenging This is what makes being on a diet most challenging Work has a way of complicating diet commitments. You got a lot of deadlines, obligations, and expectations, so you’re likely to get stressed out-enter cortisol, the body’s main stress hormone that increases our appetite and cravings for sugary fat nonsense.Or maybe you’re always on top of things; you go in and get things done, which means you’ll likely get bored, which causes our dopamine levels to drop, which in turn makes us reach for fatty sugary nonsense.Maintaining willpower on the clockA new Harris Poll survey of over 1,000 employed U.S. adults, commissioned by the American Heart Association and Aramark as part of their Healthy for Life 20 By 20 initiative, reports that over 56% of working Americans have a hard time eating healthy on the clock, with an additional 77% saying that   they’re more likely to eat healthy on their days off. The intent is certainly there.Follow Ladders on Flipboard!Follow Ladders’ magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more!More than 82% of respondents agreed that having healthy food options at work is important and more than 68% value help from their employer in becoming healthier. Providing a catered lunch for employees can be a great method of instituting healthy dietary habits if a firm has the passion and the resources.Unfortunately, healthy food options are rarely the default. Seventy-nine percent   surveyed whose workplace has an on-site cafeteria, food service or vending machine reported getting food there at least some of the time. Younger employees were more likely to eat unhealthy foods at work because of the convenience or because of the lower costs. On a stressful day at work, around one in three employees surveyed, who typically eat lunch during work (35%), say their lunch is less healthy than a typical day.Anne Thorndike, MD, MPH, is the vice chairman of the American Heart Association’s Nutrition Committee and associate professor at Harvard Medical School. Thorndike, who has dedicated several years to dietary awareness had this to say about the premise of the new report:“Understanding what employees are eating for lunch on a typical workday and what factors influence their choices helps us develop strategies to improve dietary intake with multi-level approaches through food systems, communities, and individuals. The finding that healthier food choices at work may impact food choices throughout the rest of the day presents a unique opportunity for the workplace to have a positive influence on not only the employee’s health but also the health of the employee’s family.”Healthy choicesOne of the most promising finds of the new study is the reassuring amount of respondents that are genuinely interested in promoting a healthier dietary work culture. More than 91% of U.S workers surveyed said that they are concerned with improving the healthfulness of their typical workday lunch, particularly younger workers under 40.Four-i n-five respondents said that there should be more healthy food options at work, and nine out of 10 workers prepare their lunch at home “at least some of the time” in order to avoid temptation at work, with women being more likely than men to do so.“Improving the nutrition content and reducing calories of classic favorites and typically indulgent menu items helps. Having more plant-based options to choose from at home and on menus helps. But in the end, people still need to choose to eat healthier food. The good news is most people said they are interested in doing better,” concluded Thorndike.

How staying busy can boost your memory

How staying busy can boost your memory How staying busy can boost your memory When you are too busy, saying yes to every assignment and offer, you can quickly become overwhelmed. The frantic busyness of crammed calendars makes us feel stressed, a stress that takes a physical toll on our bodies in the long run.But there is an upside to busyness, a study in  Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience found. When your mind is kept busy, it forces your brain to learn and grow.Busy people had the highest cognitive performanceAs we age in our careers, an active, busy lifestyle can be the brainpower boost we need to keep our memories fresh. In 2016, researchers at the University of Texas and the University of Alabama tested over 300 adults who were ages 50 to 89 on busyness and cognition, and tested them again in four years later. Busy people said they often had too many things to do each day to actually get it all done and were likely to miss bedtimes to get more work done. The participants who reported greater busyness had a stronger cognitive performance.“Greater busyness was associated with better processing speed, working memory, episodic memory, reasoning, and crystallized knowledge,” the researchers concluded. When you are busy, you have more opportunities for meeting new people and encountering new situations, accelerating learning and growth. “A busy person is likely to be exposed to more information and more types of situations on a daily basis,” the research suggests. “This potential abundance of new learning in busy people may contribute to the maintenance of new hippocampal neurons, which may assist episodic memory.”But don’t get too busyBusyness can help you better recall where and when you met that colleague, but of course, it comes with well-documented downsides. The study did not specifically test the relationship between cognition, busyness, and stress, and the researchers acknowledged that busyness could also limit time for relaxation or self-reflection, positive benefits employees need to recharge. And for workaholics who m ake busyness a part of their identity, being busy can become an excuse to drop every other commitment, including the ones you make to your fellow employees. One study found that overworked managers were the most likely to treat their employees unfairly in the pressure to meet deadlines. When you are staying busy just to stay busy, you have less time to stop and reflect if you are actually accomplishing something or are doing the right thing. So feel free to be a busy bee, as long as you acknowledge the important caveats. Keeping your calendar filled with fun activities and events - at a rate that does not deplete you or stress you or the people around you! - can keep your mind sharp.

Career Skills for a Job Transition

Career Skills for a Job Transition Career Skills for a Job Transition While you might feel a sense of trepidation while making a  career transition especially if you have never been faced with such a challenge. Eventually, you will benefit from making the move. Remaining stagnant in a changing job environment is not the answer. Companies expect their employees to be computer literate and able to use all of todays latest technology to help perform their job faster and more efficiently. Acquiring the  skills for a new career  may seem difficult at first, but with a little determination, you can do it. Perhaps you are deficient when it comes to computer skills. You may know how to get on the internet, check your e-mail and maybe use a word processing program to write a letter. Do you know how to create a financial spread sheet? Can you create a PowerPoint presentation? How about learning to create a web page or using social networks to increase a companys recognition and perhaps increase their sales? However, technology goes much beyond regular Word processing and spread sheets. The profession that you are trying to enter into most likely requires highly specialized skills. Make sure to do research into the specialized technology skills that will be required. Should you have an understanding of supply chain software? SAP? Microsoft Dynamics? Make sure to look up what technologies their employees list on social networks like Linkedin and if you dont have these skills, read a book about the technology before interviewing with a new company. These are a few  career skills  that can enhance your chance of finding  employment  in any number of jobs from secretarial and clerical jobs all the way up to management and executive positions. The most important career skills of course have to do with how you work with people. Working well with teams, ability to market yourself, and confidence are the most important skills you can have. If you feel  deficient  in one of these areas, be sure to try to improve. Join Toastmasters or a similar public speaking club if you need to improve your interpersonal skills. While some jobs require technical skills and special training, many more require common skills and basic intelligence. If you have good math and communication skills, are organized and have a good attitude, you can be an asset to most companies. If you add in great interpersonal skills, making a job transition should not be difficult for you. To give yourself the best chance when changing career paths, get the career skills you know you are lacking, walk in to the interviewers room, hold your head up high and tell them why you should get the position being offered. Remember, career success is not a matter of necessarily having the required career skills, but rather knowing how to talk in the vernacular of the profession and engaging well with the interviewer.

Insomnia 7 tips for people who cant sleep

Insomnia 7 tips for people who can't sleep Insomnia 7 tips for people who can't sleep No one enjoys showing up to work groggy and tired after a sleepless night, but too many of us are having trouble catching those elusive zzz’s. 1 in 3 people around the world suffer  from insomnia. All too often, we are poor sleepers who have created self-defeating habits that make insomnia inevitable. And those missing hours don’t just make us tired, they also hurt our performances at work: insomnia can lead to poorer concentration and focus, and can increase your chances of depression and of getting into an occupational accident. Here are tips on how to avoid  this by  building better sleep habits:1) Leave your bedroomWhen you can’t sleep, you may think your best bet is to close your eyes and tough it out in your bed. But experts  have found that it’s better to get up and leave  your bed if you notice that you can’t sleep after 20 minutes. That way your bed doesn’t get linked with negative associations, which will only make sleep harder.Get up, go sit on your couch and ma ybe pick up a book. Return to your bed after you feel yourself getting sleepy.2) UnplugTry turning off your technology devices an hour before bed. Our smartphones, computers, and TVs emit a blue light that disrupts our sleep schedules by convincing our brains that it’s morning at 11 p.m. Instead of scrolling and tapping on screens, you could try winding down from a long day by reading a book before bed or journaling your thoughts.3) Don’t stress yourself outDon’t beat yourself up over not being able to sleep. That means not obsessing over the clock and seeing how few hours of sleep you’re getting. The Ohio Sleep Medicine Institute says that will only “catastrophize” the bad sleep episode and put unhelpful pressure on yourself. Instead, you should take a longer view. You may not get a good night’s sleep tonight, but you will get one tomorrow, no sweat.A good technique to use when stress is keeping you up: keep a notebook and pen nearby and write down every single thing that’s keeping you awake. Once it’s on paper, it’s free. That should clear up your mind to get some sleep - and you may wake up with some solutions.4) Wear your body  outIn a survey of 1,000 people, the National Sleep Foundation found that people who exercise reported better sleep than people who didn’t exercise- even when both groups logged the same number of hours.Although vigorous exercisers in the study had  the biggest difference in sleep, even a 10-minute walk can help increase your chances of a good night’s sleep.Just try not to exercise in the hours right before bed, some experts say that it can impair your ability to sleep if it’s too intense.5) Relax your muscles to ease your mindProgressive  muscle relaxation  is a centuries-old technique anyone can use to get your body to stop holding everything in and relaaax. You flex and tense each muscle group, and then relax these muscles  in 20-second intervals. You can start with your face by lifting your eyebrows and then relaxing them to ease tension out of your forehead. Then repeat this method with each body part.By the end of the exercise, your body should feel looser and your mind calmer.6) Go to bed at the same time each dayYou want to train your body to get tired at the right time each day.  The National Sleep Foundation recommends going to bed and waking up at the same time to promote good sleep habits. That may  mean cutting back on your naps, so you’re not energized when you should be tired. Try keeping a sleep diary, so you can see when you are going to bed.7) Try home remediesEveryone has  their favorite natural  sleep aid: warm baths, hot milk, lavender oil and chamomile tea have all been found to promote better sleep habits. The mileage on these home remedies may vary, but sometimes just the ritual of making a hot cup of tea can help soothe your mind.

What You Dont Know About Develop Synonym Resume Could Be Costing to More Than You Think

What You Don't Know About Develop Synonym Resume Could Be Costing to More Than You Think In case the database name isn't specified then the name of the present database is used. This problem is now being investigated by Oracle and ought to be resolved in Oracle version 11.1.0.7. Multiple temporary tables with the exact same name can exist at exactly the same time in the exact same database if they're created in distinct sessions because the tables are assigned to unique schemas. Make a specific copy of a present table. This script has to be run by means of a user with the DBA role. Be aware that the SQL should end with semi-colon if you've got multiple queries in the query window. If schema isn't specified, SQL Server utilizes the default schema of the present user. At the SQL prompt, make a new database connection. Below are a couple screenshots from the application. The techniques described within this guide may be used during its implementation. This example makes a synonym for a present table in the AdventureWorks2012 database. Giving a value doesn't impact the upcoming system-generated price. If you change a user-defined table type, then you have to check wherever it's been used in the database. Then you may proceed with any changes you wish to do with Products table. For instance, you rename a table but don't wish to influence the recent applications that currently use the table. Definitions of Develop Synonym Resume The script will subsequently permit the reader to disambiguate the input through the assortment of apropos definitions. So adding translated columns depending on the end user's language would be a fantastic idea. Synonymizer can help to increase your writing and make it appear more mature and academic. Sorry French and Spanish guys in the event the translation appears funny. Ideas, Formulas and Shortcuts for Develop Synonym Resume If you must keep the old snapshot around for a little while, just remove or comment out the DROP DATABASE command close to the close of the script. There fore a dashboard can be linked to numerous diverse datasets. Instead you must log in the user that owns them, directly or using a proxy user. Once more, the application user can connect, but doesn't have any tablespace quotas. By default, when you search for an object in the database, it attempts to search it in your schema. Apparently, it's possible to use public synonyms, but this may be problematic once you have several application schemas on a single case. When resolving references to an object, Oracle Database utilizes a public synonym only in the event the object isn't prefaced by means of a schema and isn't followed by means of a database connection. Soft' dependencies will likely refer to objects in different databases. Instead, you may produce indexes separately after the table is made. The new table will just be made by utilizing the very same structure of the current table. The temporary table is made in another, session-specific schema. Basically, you may create a new table from a present table with the addition of a SELECT statement at the conclusion of the CREATE TABLE statement. What You Must Know About Develop Synonym Resume Within this tip we'll demonstrate the difference between the 2 methods and offer you a template for synonym creation. Perhaps synonyms will merely help save you ten minutes over the duration of a whole application, but still, those small ten-minute savings accumulate. In the event the synonym doesn't exist, the OR REPLACE has no result. Enjoy employing the Synonyms in your environment, in the appropriate way, with the best ways to find metadata about these Synonyms as stated in this short article. Therefore, creating PUBLIC SYNONYMS aren't going to override all of the table references. You cannot specify a schema for the synonym if you've specified PUBLIC. You are unable to alter the sharing attribute of a synonym after it's created. Don't forget to utilize PUBLIC clause when dropping a public synonym. Synonyms can't be applied as base objects for different synonyms. They can be any part of speech, as long as both words belong to the same part of speech. The synonym is much like a unix hardlink. It is then used in subsequent examples.
